The ingredients market of the cosmetics upcyled field, in 2022 was $231,5 mln, will achieve $433,5 mln by 2031.

The Upcycle beauty company, in the “Zero Waste Beauty Report 2024” reports that the claims about upcycled ingredients have authority two times higher then most ingredients in the market because they results more efficient (for well-aging, hydrating, antioxidant and UV protections claims) and more competitive economically.

Just 0,01% of the “traditional” ingredients can be defined cheap. On the other side upcycle ingredients, considered expensive, has a lower price than the traditional ones.

#UPCYCLED: THE KEYWORD

#upcycled is one of the key words most searched from formulators all over the world. Use and reuse, the circular beauty is going to be the mainstream in the next years!

The rapid rise of the term “upcycled” in sustainability claims highlights a significant shift in consumer and industry focus toward more environmentally friendly practices.

In 2021, “upcycled” was the 10th most used claim in sustainability. However, by 2022, it had surged to 3rd place, and by 2023, it had climbed even further to second place, just behind “natural”.

This trend reflects a growing recognition of the importance of resource efficiency and waste reduction.

To empower consumers to the green transition, the European council and the Parliament have come to an agreement, the directive on green claims.

The directive on green claims integrates the European standard, already adopted, prohibiting the green washing. The directive defines which information the businesses have to give to justify its marketing assertions, such as:
